How to inspect the air fryer?

What are the inspection standards and procedures for air fryers exported to Europe and the United States? How can inspectors inspect air fryers better and faster?

With the popularity of the air fryer in the domestic Douyin, the air fryer has become popular in the foreign trade circle and is widely favored by overseas consumers. According to the latest Statista survey, 39.9% of US consumers said that if they plan to buy a small kitchen appliance in the next 12 months, the most likely product to buy is an air fryer. Whether it is sold in North America, Europe, or other regions, with the increase in sales, the shipment of air fryers reaches thousands or even tens of thousands each time, and the inspection before shipment is particularly important.

Air fryer inspection

Air fryers are small household appliances in the kitchen. The inspection of air fryers is mainly based on QCANT according to IEC-2-37 Standard: Safety Standard for Household and Similar Electrical Installations - Special Requirements for Commercial Electric Fryers and Deep Fryers. If the following test is not marked, it means that the test method is based on the IEC international standard.

1. Transport drop test (not for fragile items)

Test method: Perform drop test according to ISTA 1A standard. After 10 drops, the product and packaging should be free of fatal and serious problems. This test is mainly used to simulate the free fall that the product may be subjected to during handling, and to examine the ability of the product to resist accidental shocks.

2. Appearance and assembly inspection

- The surface of the electroplated parts must be smooth and free of spots, pinholes, and air bubbles.

- The paint film on the paint surface must be smooth and bright, with uniform color and firm paint layer, and its main surface should be free of defects such as flow paint, spots, wrinkles and peeling that affect the appearance.

- The surface of plastic parts should be smooth, uniform in color, without obvious top white, scratches, and color spots.

- The overall color remains the same, with no obvious color difference.

- The assembly gap/step between the outer surface parts of the product should be less than 0.5mm, and the overall performance should be consistent, the strength of the fit should be even and appropriate, and there should be no tight or loose fit.

- The bottom rubber gasket should be assembled completely, without falling off, damage, rust, etc.

3. Product size/weight/power cord length measurement

According to the product specification or the sample control test provided by the customer, measure the weight of a single product, product size, gross weight of the outer box, outer box size, length of the power cord, and the pot body capacity of the air fryer. If the customer does not provide detailed tolerance requirements, it should be used +/-3% tolerance.

4. Coating adhesion test

Use 3M 600 tape to test the adhesion of oil spray, hot stamping, UV coating, and printing surface, and the content cannot be 10% off.

5. Label friction test

Wipe the rated sticker with a cloth dipped in water for 15S, and then wipe it with a cloth dipped in gasoline for 15S. There is no obvious change on the label, and the handwriting should be clear and not affect the reading.

6. Full function test (including functions that must be assembled)

Switches/knobs, installation, adjustment, setting, display, etc. specified in the instruction manual should operate well. All functions should conform to the declaration. For the air fryer, its function of cooking french fries, chicken wings, and other foods should also be tested. After cooking, the outer surface of the fries should be golden brown and crispy, and the inside of the fries should be slightly dry without moisture and have a good taste; cooking; After the chicken wings, the skin of the chicken wings should be crispy and no liquid flow out. If the meat is too hard, the chicken wings are too dry, and the cookling effect is not good.

7. Input power test

Test method: Measure and calculate the power deviation applied to the rated voltage.

Under rated voltage and normal operating temperature, the rated power deviation should not be greater than the following provisions:

8. High Voltage Test

Test method: Apply the required voltage (the voltage is determined according to the product category or the voltage below the root) between the components to be tested, the action time is 1S, and the leakage current is 5mA. Required test voltage: 1200V for products sold to the United States or Canada; 1000V for Class I sold to Europe, and 2500V for Class II sold to Europe, with no insulation breakdown. Air fryers generally fall into the category I.

9. Power-on test

Test method: The sample is powered by rated voltage, and works at least 4 hours under full load or according to the instructions (if less than 4 hours). After the test, the sample should be able to pass the high-voltage test, function, grounding resistance test, etc., and the measurement results should be fine.

10. Ground test

Test method: The ground test current is 25A, the time is 1S, and the resistance is not greater than 0.1ohm. U.S. and Canadian market: ground test current is 25A, time is 1S, and resistance is not greater than 0.1ohm.

11. Thermal fuse function test

Let the temperature limiter not work, dry it until the thermal fuse is disconnected, the fuse should act, and there is no safety problem.

12. Power cord pull test

Test method: IEC standard: 25 pulls. If the net weight of the product is less than or equal to 1 kg, it will be pulled 30 Newtons; if the net weight of the product is greater than 1 kg and less than or equal to 4 kg, it will be pulled by 60 Newtons; if the net weight of the product is greater than 4 kg, it will be pulled by 100 Newtons. After the test, the power cord should not be displaced by more than 2mm. UL standard: pull 35 pounds, hold for 1 minute, the power cord cannot be displaced.

13. Internal workmanship and inspection of key components

Internal structure and key component inspection according to CDF or CCL.

Mainly check the model, specification, manufacturer, and other data of related parts. In general, these components include MCU, Relay (relay), Mosfet, large electrolytic capacitors, large resistors, terminals, protective components such as PTC, MOV (varistor), etc.

14. Clock Accuracy Check

The clock should be set according to the manual, and the actual time is calculated according to the measurement (set at 2 hours). If there is no customer requirement, the tolerance of the electronic clock is +/-1min, and the tolerance of the mechanical clock: is +/-10%.

15. Stability Check

UL standard and method: place the air fryer on an inclined surface 15 degrees from the horizontal according to normal use, the power cord should be placed in the most unfavorable position, and the appliance should not be overturned.

IEC standards and methods: place the air fryer on an inclined surface 10 degrees from the horizontal according to normal use, and place the power cord in the most unfavorable position, and should not overturn; put it on an inclined surface 15 degrees from the horizontal, the power cord is placed in the most unfavorable position, and it is allowed to overturn, but the temperature rise test needs to be repeated.

16. Handle compression test

The fixture of the handle will withstand a pressure of 100N for 1 minute. Or support on the handle equivalent to 2 times the water volume of the whole pot and add the shell weight for 1 minute. After the test, there is no defect in the fixing system. Such as riveting, welding, etc.

17. Noise Test

Reference standard: IEC60704-1

Test method: In an environment with background noise <25dB, place the product on a test table with a height of 0.75m in the center of the room, at least 1.0m from the surrounding walls; provide the product with rated voltage, and set the gear to enable the product to generate the maximum noise ( Airfry and Rotisserie gears are recommended); measure the maximum sound pressure (A-weighted) at a distance of 1m from the front, rear, left, right, and top of the product. The measured sound pressure should be less than the decibel value required by the product specification.

18. Water leak test

Fill the inner container of the air fryer with water, let it stand, and there should be no leaks in the entire device.

19. Barcode Scanning Test

The barcode is clearly printed and scanned with a barcode scanner, and the scanning result is consistent with the product.
